Google CSE

CSE & Vision

The CMS uses a page appropriately titled “search” for the search function. The devs need to specify what search engine is being used, but once it is set to Google CSE, you simply edit the Search Widget and enter the key supplied by Google CSE. Done!

If the client is using a Google CSE key not included in our list this is usually because someone created the account and did not think ahead about making sure access to the account was retained. You can create a new search engine in our account (visioninternetsearch@gmail.com) and use the new key in the CMS with no loss of information.

--CSE--

While logged into the visioninternetsearch@gmail.com account, head over to the CSE console and smack the “Add” button. The interface for CSE is not very well laid out.

1 – Enter the url for the site and hit create.

2 – Under the -Setup-

- Basics – Grab the search engine ID for our CMS & Enable Speech Input

- Admin – Add our client contacts email so they can have access

3 – Under Look & Feel

- Layout – set to “Full Width”

- Themes – pick one that as closely matches the site colors

4 – Under Business check the “Do not show ads”. As governments they qualify to use the free version and still not have to have ads on the search result pages.
