Background
- Current American Eagle customer - paid a nominal hosting fee and bought tech support by the hour
- Old website didn't work well, it was about 12 years old and the CMS hadn't been updated; current site organized by department and want to organize for community, and make more community focused; staff gets a ton of calls and even the staff doesn't know where to look to find info on the website
- They didn't have to go out to bid and were able to piggyback on other agencies
- From conversations with his GMIS group, Doug identified American Eagle, Vision and CivicPlus
- He chose not to contact CivicPlus because he didn't like that all of their sites looked like they came from the same cookie cutter template
- Received proposals from both American Eagle and Vision
Why did we win?
- Key - Doug really wanted change and wanted something new from the ground up, but he didn't want to reinvent the wheel so our experience was helpful
- Doug liked our CMS preview mode
- References - Also heard good things from local references - Mt. Prospect, Elk Grove and Northbrook (Doug also knows people with these cities through GMIS and a GIS consortium (32 agencies sharing resources) that he belongs to)
- Features - building forms, seamless docs
What could we improve?
- No suggestions
Other points
- Adam and Vision sales process was good
- Biggest likes:
- Customer testimonials from local agencies - Elk Grove, Mt Prospect
- Adam was involved in the kickoff call
- Timeline in kickoff call provided clear bulleted steps and deadlines
- Haven't been overburdened with emails from Vision
Takeaways
- Local gov guys talk to each other and share ideas - Doug talked with GMIS and GIS Consortium networks
- Positive customer testimonials definitely help with closing deals
- Cookie cutter solutions are not appealing
