visionSearch

What is visionSearch?

visionSearch is a premium search alternative to our standard Google Search.  Creating an in-house search component was an important step for us to enhance our CMS offering as it will enable us to customize the results and continue to build out the functionality over time. The core of the tool is Solr, a popular open source search library, ensuring fast and accurate results and intelligent indexing.

visionSearch includes all of the functionality that end users have come to expect in an industrial-strength search engine. Features include:

  • Auto-suggest feature that suggests possible searches dynamically, as the query is typed in the box
  • Advanced search functionality, including fuzzy logic and full Boolean keyword searches
  • Additional search options that allow the user to write Boolean searches without having to know Boolean logic (for example, search with all of the words, with the exact phrase, with at least one of the words or without the words)
  • Restricted results, allowing the ability to display only specific file types (Adobe PDFs, Word DOCs, etc.)
  • Results sorted by relevance, last modified, title or content type
  • Ability to filter results by content type by clicking on a check box (for example, a user may filter results to show only News and RFPs)
  • Results identified by content type (Page, News, PDF, etc.), file size and last modified date

For site administrators, this tool will allow significant control over what content is indexed by search and how it displays. Configuration options include:

  • Defining the scope of the search index, potentially allowing you to display results from multiple websites, or just for one specific department. Adding keywords to promote a specific page higher in the search results
  • Configure synonyms so the search will consider the words or phrases to be exactly the same

visionSearch can also be used with an intranet as well, and does not require an external internet connection like Google Search.
