Offering Training

Selling

Training comes at multiple levels:

  • Basic User Training - covers pages, content, news, and events for regular content editors (sample agenda)
  • Advanced User Training - covers site administration and workflows for super users (sample agenda)

Training is sold in "days" or "sessions":

  • A session is a 3 hour class
  • 1 day = 2 sessions

Training can be done on-site or remote:

  • On-site training is meant for larger classes of ~20 (can accommodate more, but learning quality drops off)
  • Remote training is meant for smaller groups of ~3-5, often as a "train the trainer" where those users can then teach what they learned

It is assumed that all trainees should have a computer in front of them to follow along individually during training. Clients should be made aware of this so they can prepare!

Training sessions are not available for CMS 5 or 4.

Vision used to offer "Technical Training," but it was meant for developer staff and sysadmins, not for CMS users.

Scheduling

1. To schedule a date for training, check the Training Calendar. (Currently we share Brian Pope's calendar via Outlook, subject to change.)

Scheduling guidelines:

  • Don't book a full day of on-site training the day before another morning training, unless agreed by the trainer
  • Have the client sign an addendum, or at least cut a purchase order, for the training before confirming the trainer should book a flight

2. Fill out the Training Info Sheet and send to the trainer. Also ask the client how many trainees will attend.

3. Introduce the client to their trainer by emailing trainer and client in the same message with scheduling and logistics.
